Goodwoody Styling

>> My brain is currently haunted by a particularly nasty nightmare that I had in my four hour sleep time before I had to get up for my flight to Stockholm which means I seem to have nothing to write about Vintage at Goodwood that doesn't express fear or weird visions of a 50s lady hanging in a room.  I'm therefore going to split it all up as I wanted to get the streetstyle bits of the post up before I even talk about the festival itself.  Given that I only had a day and wasn't interested in acquiring clothes to add to my already packed-away wardrobe (new wardrobe coming on Friday!), the bulk of my day at Vintage at Goodwood was spent people watching and there were plenty of them in all manners of 'vintage' dress to be found.  On the whole, I found the 50s-60s decades were predominant in popularity though pretty much every decade billed on the festival was represented in some way - I still say Mad Men has something to do with it even if BBC4 aren't showing super high ratings.  I say 'vintage' in quotation marks because the outifts ranged from vintage-inspired to actual vintage to touches of vintage in accessories etc...

It was fascinating to see how different groups of people from hardcore vintage lovers to non-vintage-doers responded to the festival through their outfits, and the spirit of 'dressing up' definitely permeated the latter, with very few in their 'normal' clothes.  Some made a truly stellar effort, outfitting young children and really going to town with every minute detail.  Yet I suppose the element of 'dress up' was always there and I suppose I tried to snap the people who looked like they somehow 'lived' with their mode of dress as opposed to it being a one-off experience.  Still, with a festival that set itself up to try and please as many people as possible, I suppose the 'mix' in the crowd was to be expected and in someways contributed to the success (or what I perceived to be success in terms of the 'jolliness' of it all...).

More thoughts on the festival to come after I get rid of this nightmare hangover...

And yes, FULL CREDIT goes to Tommy of Jak and Jil here in photography style - I'm a SHIT photographer.  The pits.  I once made someone physically CRY because I was so crap at taking their photograph.  I did the best I could with these ones but there is a reason why this category with my own 'Bubble Snaps' is so empty.  I'll leave it to the maestros like Mr Ton save for this one occasion where he wasn't around to snap it all up...
