Michelle Danner, Artistic Director at Edgemar Center of the Arts is gearing up to shoot "Hello Herman" at the end of this month. The film "Hello Herman" is based on the play of the same name which has previously been performed at Edgemar Center.

Hello Herman is a mind-blowing examination of why tragic events like Columbine and Virginia Tech continue to happen in our country. No stone is left unturned as our hero enters the core of Iowa State Prison to ask Herman Howards point blank why he did what he did. Over the course of three days, while Lax discovers what makes Herman tick, the State pushes for his televised execution. Through the two characters' back-stories we get a sense of the larger world surrounding this issue and the larger issues brought about the world we are creating.
Norman Mailer's legacy lives on, not only in the minds and hearts of his global readership, but through the pen of his youngest son, John Buffalo, High Times editor, novelist, journalist, and playwright. John has written a morality play about a Columbine-style high-school killer, using such difficult material as both a narrative context and a conduit to broader conversation about the the turbulent and misapprehended condition of modern society in the United States.
Michelle Danner directed the play and is now preparing to direct the film of "Hello Herman". Shooting of the film is set to begin Spring of 2011.

...John Buffalo Mailer, a 23-year-old playwright, seems to have inherited the family hubris; that's a good thing, more or less. When not much older, his father yes, Norman published ''The Naked and the Dead'' and began his career as a self-appointed American mentor. And whether or not you think Mailer pe was up to the task, he never shied from it. Now his son, a recent graduate of Wesleyan University and very possibly the smartest kid in theater class, has written a play that is a chip off the old block -- at least in terms of authorial bravado........
A fable coach bags outlet, of sorts, ''Hello Herman'' tells the twin stories of an Iowa teenager who mows down 29 classmates and teachers in a high school murder spree and the young star journalist who obtains the exclusive rights to interview him. Their motivations, it turns out, are the same; they want to be famous, and the play is an admonition about the path of a society for which notoriety has become an end in itself.
